As people began streaming into the building, many paused to find their names on the bricks that create a colorful inlay at the entryway. The bricks were a part of the fundraising efforts of the Friends of the Scotts Valley library and contributed to the nearly $200,000 that was raised to upgrade the library’s interior.

The Kiwanis provided a BBQ, booths were set up in the parking lot with food, facepainting and crafts for children. Inside, over 1000 community members visited the new library and nearly 100 registered for a library card, 25 people become a member of Friends of the Library, and many made a charitable donation to the Friends of the Library.
