The festivities began with a fabulous silent auction including beautiful baskets full of items donated from local businesses and library supporters. Randy Klein of the Scotts Valley Rotary honored the event with a larger than life check for $12,000. The organization will be sponsoring the media wall in the teen area.
Highlights of the live auction were the 99 Bottles of Beer, comprised of a variety of gourmet beers from around the world, a one week stay at a luxury condo at the Ridge Resort at Lake Tahoe and a one week stay in an ocean view condo in Wailea, Maui.
From Beauty Baskets, to beautiful jewelry, to toys for the man cave, and baskets for the kids, there was something for everyone.
Friends of the Scotts Valley Library Treasurer, Mike Keogh indicated that the event brought in almost $15,000. "This brings us a bit closer to our goal, and really shows a lot of support for this wonderful project ," said Elizabeth Walch, President of the Scotts Valley Friends group.
"A Tropical Tale" was a fun and financially rewarding event!
The next Friends project is to sell engraved bricks for the entryway of the new library. There are a limited number available and sales for bricks that will be in place for the grand opening must be purchased by October 30th. Bricks are available on the website.
